Countbounce (AKA Pip Norman) enjoys the rare status of being short-listed three times for the prestigious Australian Music Prize (2010, 2009 and 2007 for work with TZU and Urthboy). He has won an APRA award (Best Blues and Roots with Ash Grunwald, ‘Breakout’), an AIR award (Urthboy, ‘Spitshine’), ABMF Song of the Year (‘Fish Out Of Water’), and has been nominated for two ARIAs, two AIRs, and an APRA, among others.
Besides his band TZU, Countbounce also collaborates with Urthboy, as well as across genres with artists such as Ash Grunwald, Daniel Merriweather, Sparkadia, Sietta, and singer-songwriters Bobby Flynn, Texture Like Sun, and many others. As a songwriter his work is unmistakably accessible, while retaining challenging arrangements and poetic themes. His production combines a refined musicality with trademark rich instrumentation, a pop-infused melodic aesthetic, and textured analogue layers.
Countbounce has also created work for theatre and intermedia art projects, winning acclaim in 2008 with Willoh S Weiland on intermedia science project Yelling at Stars (www.yellingatstars.com.au). He is frequently invited to present at workshops and panels across Australia – particularly in the Northern Territory where he is an honorary local – and is producing Tiwi Island group B2M on their forthcoming LP, through Skinnyfish Records. Countbounce is published by Mushroom Music Publishing, and is an APRA Ambassador.
