Beginning of the End gets started
Happy to say that after a few weeks of the punters getting used to the new sound, TZU’s new single Beginning of the End is getting heaps of love on the interwebs, garnering high rotation on JJJ, and generally striking a chord around the country.
If you haven’t yet seen the new video, here it is in all its ambiguous, arty glory.
TZU is back
After a big ole break, TZU has been in Bounce County writing and producing a new and very different record. Its being co-produced by all four members of TZU, but I’ve landed the job of directing the recording process here at Bounce County. The first single is ‘Beginning of the End’, and we’re taking it on the road. Keep an ear out for the album drop later this year.
Oh Mary!
In 2009 Sparkadia frontman Alex Burnett joined CB in Darwin for a working holiday (with coconut shake benefits). The sweat, beer, frogs and Papuan soccer tournaments conspired to produce some smash hits. The highlight of these sessions was a sweet little song called ‘Mary’.
The Count flavoured the demo with a severe Juno 106 bass sound and dirty gospel samples. Alex took the results to London to magic up an album with Mark Tieku (Florence And The Machine, CocknBullKid), who kept a lot of the tracking and ideas, earning Countbounce co-production credits.
Check it: ”Alex Burnett’s Sparkadia are set to release a limited edition 7” single, ‘Mary’, on Valentine’s Day through new independent label Gold Dust. Shot through with slivers of soulful Springsteen, rousing gospel and a faultless Florence + the Machine-worthy dose of dramatic street spirit, ‘Mary’ is powerful, intelligent pop music at it’s … Read More »
Mr Bounce wins an APRA Award
Rapt to announce Count Bounce (AKA Pip Norman) and Ash Grunwald won this year’s Blues and Roots Song of the Year at the 2010 APRA Awards.
Pip and Ash collected the award at a gala event in Sydney on Monday 21 June, and thereafter had a rocking night. The Count also performed live with Urthboy at the event, having produced a cover of Kate Miller-Heidke’s song ’Last Day on Earth’ mashed with Urthboy’s post-apocalyptic track ‘Clocks’.
A lovely time was had by all.
Countbounce scores third AMP nomination
In a rare honour, the Count has received his third nomination for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. Previously short-listed for TZU’s Smiling at Strangers in 2006, and Urthboy’s The Signal in 2007, this year sees Countbounce recognized again for his work on Urthboy’s latest album Spitshine.

Urthboy: Spitshine
Introducing “Spitshine”, the hotly anticipated third album from URTHBOY.
One of the most visible characters of the hip hop scene, URTHBOY is a key figure in the genre’s escalating success. “Spitshine” not only consolidates every superlative sent his way, but gives numerous reasons to pile more on.
“Spitshine” is an audacious record packed with punch and finesse: the beats and vocals swagger with breezy rhythm– allowing Urthboy to blaze a trail across a sunset of slamming drums. There’s a defiant optimism about it: everyone’s got a story and somehow, anyhow, that story should be told.
Production is handled by the same talent that saw last album “The Signal” get multiple award nominations (AMP; J Award; AIR Awards). COUNT BOUNCE (6 tracks); ELGUSTO (3 tracks) and HERMITUDE (3 tracks) exhibit why they’re on par with international stars – with some inspired production. Guests such … Read More »
