Having a ball and making tracks with the dream team: Alex ‘Kofi Annan’ Burnett (Sparkadia) and the sultry Dan Sultan, at Bounce County. Also featuring Bounce Jnr.
After knocking off two huge new albums in the last two weeks (TZU and Urthboy – look out for both releases later this year), and feeling pretty damn good about it, Bounce County is now bouncing to the beat of Sietta’s brand new material all this month.
Countbounce and Joelistics here putting some final touches on tracks for the upcoming TZU album. Joel may or may not actually play the acoustic guitar on the album. Keep an ear to the ground for another single coming soon…
Bounce County is growing, and taking on new staff and producers. We’re looking for another reliable producer to join Bounce County, with 4 nights available per week. Also looking for a fresh, bushy-tailed studio assistant to be our new sheriff and help keep the County lawful. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more details. See below for a little tour of Bounce County.
Bobby Flynn’s new single Running in the Rain has a moody new video. This is a track we’re really proud of down here at Bounce County. Its a bit of a dreamteam, actually: sung by Bobby Flynn, written by Alex Burnett (Sparkadia), recorded and produced by yours truly, Mikey Iveson on drums, mixed by Tony Espie, mastered by David Walker.
Well worth the wait, the new single ‘Bottle’ from Texture Like Sun (longtime Bounce County collaborator Mark Pearl) has hit hard. ‘Bottle’ was written by Mark and I, recorded on a tropical stint in Darwin with overdubs at Bounce County, and mixed by Dan Rejmer at Artillery Studios in London. Hold tight for his upcoming EP.
In 2009 Sparkadia frontman Alex Burnett joined CB in Darwin for a working holiday (with coconut shake benefits). The sweat, beer, frogs and Papuan soccer tournaments conspired to produce some smash hits. The highlight of these sessions was a sweet little song called ‘Mary’.
The Count flavoured the demo with a severe Juno 106 bass sound and dirty gospel samples. Alex took the results to London to magic up an album with Mark Tieku (Florence And The Machine, CocknBullKid), who kept a lot of the tracking and ideas, earning Countbounce co-production credits.
Check it: ”Alex Burnett’s Sparkadia are set to release a limited edition 7” single, ‘Mary’, on Valentine’s Day through new independent label Gold Dust. Shot through with slivers of soulful Springsteen, rousing gospel and a faultless Florence + the Machine-worthy dose of dramatic street spirit, ‘Mary’ is powerful, intelligent pop music at it’s … Read More »
In the space of a few (too-short) weeks, the Count has scored both a brand new son and a brand new studio. Surely a recipe for heart-exploding bone-shattering inspirational anthems? Or at least some sleep deprivation. Stay tuned.
In further praise for the well-lauded album ‘Fish Out of Water’ by Ash Grunwald, the Australian Blues Music Festival nominated Countbounce (AKA Pip Norman) for Producer of the Year 2009 for his work on the 2008 LP. Sweet.
In a rare honour, the Count has received his third nomination for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. Previously short-listed for TZU’s Smiling at Strangers in 2006, and Urthboy’s The Signal in 2007, this year sees Countbounce recognized again for his work on Urthboy’s latest album Spitshine.
